Mushial | Portland, Maine

Having designed and built one house on their own, the clients came to the table with valuable insight about what an architect could add to the process. Their steep, south-facing site was an infill lot on the Portland peninsula. Four narrow stories preserve maximum vegetation on the site and allow all interior spaces to take advantage of year-round southern light. Careful placement of the house on the hillside avoids shadows from neighboring buildings and affords panoramic views from the mouth of Portland Harbor to the Casco Bay Bridge, to South Portland, and up the Fore River. This young couple and their son are excited to be living in the modern world.
